ICIBM 2018

The International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine (ICIBM) 2018
Medical Informatics Thematic Track (MedicalInfo2018)

Medical informatics, or health informatics is the study and use of data and information technology to deliver health care services and to improve patients’ ability to monitor and maintain their own health. Over the past decade, Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other health information systems have been increasingly implemented at US hospitals and clinics. Large amounts of detailed longitudinal patient information, including lab tests, medications, disease status, and treatment outcomes, have been accumulated and are available electronically. These large clinical databases are valuable data sources for clinical and translational research. Tremendous efforts and resources have been devoted to develop infrastructures for secondary use of healthcare data and have resulted in significant discoveries in clinical and translational research.

The goal of this workshop is to bring experts in the field of health informatics to discuss innovative methods, applications, and tools to facilitate medical and translational research and address important healthcare problems.

We are inviting original research submissions (FULL 8 pages) and work-in-progress (SHORT 4 pages). All accepted submissions will be presented in MedicalInfo2018; Selected FULL/SHORT papers will be invited to publish an extended version in BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making.

Specific topics of research papers include, but are not limited to:

  1. Clinical and research data collection, curation, preservation, or sharing.
  2. Clinical and research data visualization and visual analytics.
  3. Cohort discovery.
  4. Mental health.
  5. Data mining and knowledge discovery.
  6. Data or text processing.
  7. Data quality assessment or validation.
  8. Decision support solutions.
  9. EHR-based phenotyping.
  10. Interoperability (e.g., ontology, terminology, and others).
  11. Knowledge representation, management, or engineering.
  12. Machine learning for clinical applications.
  13. Mobile health and wearable devices.
  14. Outcomes research, clinical epidemiology, or population health.
  15. Personalized or precision medicine.
  16. Predictive Modeling.

Paper Submission:

The conference already has reached an agreement with BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making to publish accepted papers related to medical informatics and decision making. Please make sure your submission fits in the aims and scope of the journal: BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in relation to the design, development, implementation, use, and evaluation of health information technologies and decision-making within the healthcare setting.

Please prepare your submissions according the guideline by the journal.

All the accepted articles are subject to a publication fee at a discounted rate charged by the BMC.

Deadline for paper submission March 4, 2018 (Extended to April 4, 2018)
Notification to authors of papers April 18, 2018 (Extended to May 18, 2018)
Journal Extension June 30, 2018
